The artist
Romy Shiner
Born in Bristol, raised in Pembrokeshire, Romy is a multi- media artist now based in North Somerset, near Bristol. She creates using lino cuts, drawings, collage, things found in nature, paintings and photography, and in previous years created through performance, poetry and creative writing.

Being a creator from the year dot, Romy attended art college as a teen, completing a Fine Art Diploma. After many years working in a variety of jobs, travelling and living through life's twists and turns, Romy became increasingly unwell. Finally diagnosed with a chronic illness, she turned back to art to help navigate the huge life changes this brought, enrolling as a mature student on an Arts & Health degree. Graduating with a distinction and the Tom Bray Award for Endurance, Romy qualified as an Arts & Health Facilitator.
Deteriorating health meant she had to stop working, however, she still uses her creativity for her own wellbeing and, though limited herself, Romy is a passionate advocate for the huge benefits of being creative.
Not giving up easily, Romy continues to create when able, be that in bed or in her art studio based in North Somerset. She has Open Days, when feeling well enough, where artwork, handmade gifts, cards and more, are available to view and buy.
Romy is an Ambassador for the charity Outside In, which provides a platform for artists, like herself, who face barriers to the art world. She also uses her artwork to raise awareness and support charities related to her condition.
