Even though I went to Art College when I left school, completed a foundation year and Two Year Fine Art Diploma, in the years following I didn't feel at all confident about my ability and created very little artwork and sporadically. I certainly didn't see myself as an Artist. I wanted to get started again, properly, so many years later, in my 40s, I went back to basics and attended a beginner art class. I learnt more there than I had in Art College, was accepted and felt much less pressure. I really enjoyed it. It was only for a few months but I really felt it kick started my art practice again. I am very grateful for it - grateful to the friendly, approachable, authentic teacher and relaxed atmosphere. I was reminded of this class today by an previous Instagram post, which included a couple of the drawings I did there, I stated on the post that I created these two large charcoal drawings in an hour and a half. Not bad for someone who was convinced by college tutors she couldn't be an artist...
